ZVC Velo racers, Michael Barrow, Norm Desrochers, Steve Hanson, Jason McClure, and Patrick Steele sported the red and yellow in Tucson this past weekend at the Oro Valley Triathlon Race, a USAT Sanctioned event. They loaded up their vehicles with bikes, wheels, and equipment and began their race early Saturday morning at the Oro Valley Aquatics Center to begin the race with swimming. The race course consisted of an 800 meter serpentine swim in a 50 meter pool, a 14 mile TT and then a 5K run, a bit longer than the standard sprint tri, and definitely favored the swimmer and cyclist more than a pure runner.
Participants were placed based on their estimated swim times and completed eight laps before continuing on to the bike course, which was a 7 mile loop around the park, with smooth roads and approximately 250 feet of elevation per lap. Then racers finished the course with a run that was a flat 5k, with two laps out and back. All racers crossed the finish line and received congratulatory bottles of water and muscle milk, a well-earned beverage.
ZVC spirits were high after the race, as Mike Barrow stood on top of the podium after placing 2nd in the Men’s 35-39 age group, a very competitive division which often times produces overall winners. The other four ZVC racers had strong finishes in very competitive fields. WAY TO REPRESENT!!!
