ZVC Colors Shined Brightly at Both the 2018 USA Cycling Marathon Mountain Bike Nationals in Arkansas and the Tour de El Paso this Past Weekend

This past weekend was a great weekend of racing for both on and off-road ZVC racers. The ZVC colors found their way to both Arkadelphia, Arkansas and El Paso, Texas. Some of the ZiaVelo Cycling/HighAltitude mountain bike team traveled to beautiful Arkadelphia to race the 2018 USA Cycling Marathon Mountain Bike Nationals, a 47 mile course with various types of terrain, including rocks, trees, roots, climbs, switchbacks and water crossings. We had Josh Barnett racing in the Pro category, Kevin Quattlebaum racing in the 45-49 age group, Phil Simpson in the 55-59 age group, Tamatha Risner in the 40-44 age group, Amy Coor in the 35-39 age group, and David Coor racing the 40-44 age group. As with any national event, the competition was steep. We are proud to report that everyone finished the race and with times ranging from just under four hours to five and a half hours and everyone giving it everything they had! We are ecstatic to announce that two racers finished on the podium, Tamatha had a notable 3rd place finish and Kevin a 4th place finish!

Over in El Paso, we had several ZVC racers taking to the road in the 2018 Tour de El Paso. Racers had the choice to race the crit, time trial, and the road race, or all three for the omnium. It was quite hot and also included some steep competition. ZVC racers that raced the omnium included, Laura Burkett Cat 5, Eric Collins Cat 1/2/3, David Rutledge Cat 3, Tony Bettini Masters 45+, and Chris Whitman Cat 5. We also had Shane Cunico Masters 45+, Patrick Powers Cat 5, and Fabian Erives racing the road race. Every one raced hard and finished strong! A well-deserved congratulations goes to Laura for winning the Cat 5 omnium and Tony for a strong 2nd place Masters 45+ omnium finish.

Special thanks to Norm, Courtney, and Eldon for officiating, and Kelly for your support and picture taking!
